People put off conference speaking for many reasons, but that is not what this talk is about. Instead we will explore reasons to speak, including your return on investment, and discuss how to get started. Through reliving my journey from non-speaker to speaker, we will explore the process from submission day to speaking day, and learn tips and tricks to get you started on your first talk submission. You will leave empowered to start on your own speaking journey!

Women POWER in the Tech Community

I will talk about the history of women in tech as well as getting the tech community to grow and support the women that are trying to get into tech. I will also talk about unconscious bias and not only how it effect our community but how we need to change the way women look like in the tech community. I will also talk about the solution to the problem and we can fix it all together.

Make a (Feminist) Makerspace

Talk by Jessica Anderson.

There’s a lot to consider when you're starting a makerspace -- planning location, equipment, figuring out how to budget for it all, and building an inclusive culture. This year’s process of establishing the Innovation Lab at Spelman College has taught me a lot, and I want to share that with you! This session will include a lot of discussion, and focus on the roles necessary for a successful maker community and strategic plan.
