Discussion by Beau Lyddon.
One of the most difficult transitions a person can make is to move into a leadership role where their priorities shift from building solutions to enabling others to build solutions. This is not only about managers, but also team leads, architects, etc. It’s also not specific to programming. Those in UX, operations, and project management have similar experiences. We’ll discuss my personal experiences, what I’ve witnessed and heard from others and any examples you may wish to discuss.
We’ll discuss common mistakes and the indicators you should look out for so you can avoid making the same mistakes we did. We’ll also look at why focusing on vision and strategy is more important than diving into the details and “saving the day”. We will wrap up with a discussion on how you deal with the sense of loss you may be feeling as give up building and shipping solutions.
