JavaScript Everywhere

Talk by Riaz Virani.

JavaScript has arguably the most dynamic and fastest-moving ecosystem of any programming language. While that can lead to tool/library fatigue, it also leads to extraordinary possibilities. JavaScript today has more production-ready SDKS for more use cases than any other programming language. This talk is an exploration of those possibilities and the tools that make them real. We’ll take a simple use case, building a calorie counter, and make multiple clients for it.

We’ll start with a basic web page hooked up to a Node application. Then we’ll figure out how to add calories from a Google Home and Chrome extension. We’ll go on to build a mobile app and a desktop app. We’ll then finish it by adding calories via a button hooked up to an Arduino. Most importantly, we’ll do it all using nothing but JavaScript.
